Ah, the first thing that I see after I finish feeding some sea gulls the end of our sourdough bread loaf is this. But it is great to be out on the beach after being away for Thanksgiving.

I want to tell you about a great blog that interviewed me recently. It is called
KISS MY COUNTRY and I encourage you to check it out and support it. The premise is that people will save what they love and so this blog highlights people who are making a difference by working towards protecting the environment while also focusing on the places that these people love so that we can all remember why we care about the earth, or our country, in the first place.
Nice job everyone at KISS MY COUNTRY! I will certainly be checking back often.
This bird followed me for my entire walk. I really enjoyed having him along. Maybe he thought I had more bread somewhere and if he just waited long enough I would give up the goods.

Travelin' Local - this is a local blog that focuses on unusual places in and around LA and the surrounding area. I don't know how she does it. Lisa gets around to so many cool sites and takes lots of beautiful and interesting photographs. She even came out and helped with the Blogger Beach Cleanup!

In a recent post she covered "Green Energy" with such masterful detail I wanted to pass the link to you. Click here to read the post.
Even materials that can be recycled are just trash when discarded in the ocean.

But here's some good news!
I found this site thru an email that was sent to me recently called, Center for Biological Diversity. They were reporting a recent success for winning a huge area of Cook Inlet Alaska for Beluga Whales. There are now 300 -400 white whales there, when there used to be 1300 or more in 1980. So glad that they made conservation happen!

Anna Cummins and Dr. Marcus Erikson are having a fundraiser this Friday night at C2 Gallery in Venice: Come and check out what they are up to! Read description below:

"The Last Straw is a 3-phase project to communicate the impact of plastic pollution on the world's oceans, the eco-system that lives there, and the fisheries we harvest. The goals of the project are to complete a research expedition, a speaking/cycling tour and to engineer a boat made of plastic straws that will cross the English Channel. These endeavors will be undertaken over the course of the next two and a half years."
Collect your straws people. These two incredible activists are going to need them!!!
OK - So you think one person can't make a major difference. Well look above for proof positive that you can. And also check out this guy - Alec Loorz who is 14 years old and the founder of KIDS VS. GLOBAL WARMING. He'll be at the White House today talking to top cabinet leaders in the Obama Administration about how the youth can combat climate change. Pretty cool! Click here for a link to his site:

"Kids vs Global Warming is a non profit organization founded and led by Alec Loorz, who is now 14 years old. We are a group of kids that Educate other kids about the science of global warming and Empower them to take action."

I found this on the beach last night so I picked it up as a present for my husband Garen. Today is his birthday. Happy Birthday Garen!!!!!
He says that no little critter can come in and make this vacant sand dollar their new home. I usually don't take shells from the beach that can be new real estate for sea creatures. This made a perfect gift for him though and I am so happy I found it.
